How to Claim Your SEISS Grant: Our Guide

If you’re self-employed or a member of a partnership and you have been negatively impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19), read our guide to how you can use the ‘Self Employment Income Support’ scheme to claim a grant.

You can firstly check if you’re eligible for the SEISS Grant, then see how you could be supported with the guidance of our team.

Our Accountancy Team

HMRC are contacting individuals to give them their own personal claim date

The closing date for everyone, regardless of their claim date, is 30th September 2021. You have from your claim date to the 30th September 2021 to claim.

We’re advising all of our self employed clients to not make their claims before their personal claim dates, as their claims will not be processed.

You must make this claim yourself, someone cannot do it on your behalf. However: for those that need it, we can help and prevent delays in the claiming process.

What you’ll need to claim an SEISS Grant

You will need your turnover for the 12 month period April 2020 to March 2021. We advise you have this ready to hand when you make your claim! This will decide how much you are entitled to claim.

If you traded in 2018/2019 and in 2019/2020, you’ll need your turnover figures for this period too.

Comparing your turnover

You’ll need to compare the turnover in 20/21 and 19/20 (or 18/19 if this is a truer representation of a pre-covid year).

If your turnover is down by more than 30% compared to the previous year, you could claim a grant worth 80% of 3 months average profits, which is capped at £7500.

If your turnover is down by less than 30% compared to the previous year, you could claim a grant worth 80% of 3 months average profits, which is capped at £2850.

If your turnover has increased

You may still be eligible for the 30% grant!

If you reasonably believe that due to reduced demand, or inability to trade between the 1st May 21 – 30th September 21 you have suffered significantly in your trading profits.

To confirm your eligibility, you will need…

  • Turnover figure for 20/21, and either 19/20 or 18/19
  • Your National Insurance number
  • Your Self Assessment Unique Tax Reference (UTR)
  • Your Government Gateway details
  • Your bank account details to pay the grant into
  • Your personal / business address which the bank account is registered to

After you have submitted your claim…

Checks will be made to confirm your details.

Once accepted, the money will be paid directly into your bank within 6 working days.
