Everyone A Grinner In £25,000 Hospice Fundraiser
Share your smile with the world to make someone happy and help raise £25,000 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
The well-loved Scunthorpe-based charity is insisting on cheesy grins all round with the launch of its ‘Smile and the world smiles with you’ fundraiser later this month.Readers are being urged to take a picture of their smile, bring it in to the Scunthorpe Telegraph office, make a donation, and then see their smile in a fantastic exhibition displaying all the entries.
Mel Banham, the charity’s head of fundraising, said: “A lot of people associated with the hospice have always said it is a place that’s full of smiles.
“It occurred to me we might be able to use smiles as a way of raising money for the hospice.
“Smiles are infectious – if you’re with a person who starts smiling then other people will start smiling.
“Anybody can get involved. They can dig around in their photo box and submit a photo.”
The Burringham Road hospice is an independent charity offering a range of specialist services free of charge for people in North Lincolnshire with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice needs a regular supply of funds to keep providing a care service for its patients and has set itself a £25,000 target.
Photographs submitted can either be a full picture of someone, a group smiling or a picture of a smiling mouth.
Mr Banham added: “Some people are happy to have their face on a photograph, but people who are shy and want to remain anonymous can take a picture of just their smile.
“Even relatives who live on the other side of the world can submit photographs online from April 12.”
The Scunthorpe Telegraph and local businesses Turner Warran, Towergate and Edge, which designed the website for the event, are supporting the fundraiser.
The smile day will take place at the Scunthorpe Telegraph offices at 4-5 Park Square, Laneham Street on Monday, April 14.
People can come into the office with a photo or picture of their smile and make a £2 donation to the hospice between 11am and 1pm.
Alternatively, you can take part by logging on to www.smile4us.org.uk and uploading a photo and making a £2 online donation from April 12 until May 21.
All entrants will see their smile on show at an exhibition at the 20/21 Visual Arts Centre, Church Square, Scunthorpe, between May 24 and June 7.
Schools, organisations and businesses can also get involved by sending an e-mail to email@example.com or smile@lindseylodge hospice.org.uk or by telephoning (01724) 843731.
